Integrating Research, Publishing, and Presenting Into Your Career (ECLI Webinar Series 2024)

This presentation will discuss strategies for getting started in research and the pros and perils of publishing your work and navigating such factors as open access, predatory publishers, and research metrics. Finally, we will discuss ways to submit and present your work effectively and with confidence.

This session is hosted by the NNLM Region 3. This class meets NNLM Goals to support a highly trained workforce for biomedical and health information resources and data, improve health literacy, and increase health equity through information. Speaker Information

Adela V. Justice, AHIP, is a Senior Librarian at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and works in the patient education/consumer health library, The Learning Center. She has been a librarian for almost 30 years and has spent almost 25 of those in medical libraries. She served on the board of the Medical Library Association from 2020-2023 and is also very active in her MLA chapter, the South Central Chapter. She is a Distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals. She loves presenting and publishing as it fulfills her need for a creative outlet. So far, her output includes 29 posters, 10 articles in peer-reviewed publications, several conference paper presentations and webinars, and numerous newsletter articles. She also serves her need for creativity by being a professional part-time bass player and can be found on social media under the hashtag #bassplayinlibrarian.

Tara Malone is an Associate Professor of Health Sciences Library and Information Management at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and Head of Serials & History of Medicine at the Robert M. Bird Library. She is the current chair of the Research Committee for the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association and recently served as jury chair for the Medical Library Association’s Research Training Institute. Together with her colleagues, she has performed research and authored publications on such topics as research impact metrics, consumer health information outreach, and the eHealth literacy of older adults.
